4 Reasons Your Car Might Be Responsible for an Accident

Jul 26, 2016

When you purchase a vehicle or parts for your vehicle, you expect that they have been tested for safety and reliability. However, many times car accidents can be linked back to defective vehicle design or problematic parts. Here are 4 reasons your vehicle may be responsible for your car accident or injuries you sustained.

1. Defective Airbags

When an airbag fails to deploy in a crash, significant injuries can occur. Also, injuries can be caused when an airbag deploys too soon, too late, with too much force, or with too little force. In some cases, individuals are injured when an airbag deploys when it isn’t supposed to.

2. Problematic Braking Systems

The braking system is arguably the most important safety mechanism in a vehicle. The braking system should allow you to suddenly and completely stop, and when it fails to do so, accidents can occur. Vehicles with dual braking systems and anti-lock brakes are safer than those without; however, a braking system can fail at any time, especially if the vehicle manufacturer or braking system designer was negligent in any way.

3. Defective Tires

Tires are one of the most common vehicle components that can become defective. Tires can be poorly designed, manufactured with inherent defects, or improperly sold, all of which can cause an accident or contribute to the severity of one. A tire blowout can be particularly dangerous, especially if it occurs at high speeds. Even the most seasoned driver might not be able to control a vehicle after a tire blow out at 60 or 70 mph on the highway.

4. Non-Working Seat Belts

When working properly, a seat belt can be a lifesaving device, especially in cases of vehicle rollover. However, seat belts can malfunction. The latch may not work properly, causing the seat belt to become undone in an accident. Or, the tension sensors may not engage, leaving the seat belt loose, even after impact.
